Tech savvy=More Job Opportunities

As a GVSU Laker, I am blessed with a wonderful job searching site, LakerJobs. I make use of this site VERY frequently to search for jobs, internships and possible career choices. I am a senior at Grand Valley, therefore, I need to start paying attention to possible career choices and decide what I actually would like to do with my life. I am a hospitality and tourism management major with a minor in advertising and public relations. Ideally, my dream job would be something along the lines of theme park manager, however, I am open to discovering new career choices.

Currently, I work at Craig’s Cruisers family fun center in Wyoming, MI. I have worked here for about seven months and at the beginning of this summer, I started interning there. Working there, my position would technically be called “Park Attendant” as I do anything and everything that is needed of me around the entire park. This job can be found at where you can apply online. I highly recommend this job as a summer job for college students. They have flexible hours and multiple different positions. In regards to tech skills needed for this job, you would need to know how to operate a cash register/POS system, and possibly some basic Microsoft office. You would also need to know how to operate rides and go-karts, however that’s not so much tech as it is technical. In other words, this job does not require much knowledge of technology and really, anyone can do it! Because of the fact that I am currently interning there, I am trying to learn as much as I possibly can in order to be as successful as I possibly can within the company!

Here’s 9 other jobs I’d love to apply for:

Publication Intern-West Michigan Tourist Association

This internship can be found at:

I personally would love to be able to do this internship because I think it would be a great way to combine my major and minor.

According to the posting on the LakerJobs website…

• Responsibilities will include reaching out to WMTA’s member database to ensure the publication of accurate information, assisting with WMTA website updates, contributing to and proofreading articles for the publication, and other projects as necessary.

• The ideal candidate should possess strong proofreading skills, have proficient writing skills, maintain a high level of attention to detail, and be self-motivated to work independently

I had to make a website for my CIS 150 class as well as a few computer classes in high school, but they were very basic websites using templates, so I’m not sure I’d be very good at updating the website itself but I’m sure I could update website content. I’m also not very good at using databases. Even with experience with databases due to a database research project that I had to complete for a CAP 115 class, I still don’t think that I’m very good at navigating databases and would like to get better at that.

Bilingual communication is a plus

The one that stands out to me in this job posting is the fact that I would need “excellent presentation skills” which is something I may need a bit of help with.
